It is really easy to get discouraged when I think about the things in life I’m not good at. It is especially tough when I see someone else who excels at doing something I struggle with. There are times when I wonder why I have such a hard time doing certain things. For fun, I (with Angela’s help) came up with a list of ten things I am not good at. This list is nowhere near exhaustive but here it is!
1. Folding laundry
2. Driving a manual transmission
3. Staying focused
4. Cooking
5. Drawing
6. Singing
7. Being romantic
8. Running
9. First person shooter video games
10. Writing happy poetry
We all can make a similar list, but the truth is, that is OK. We all have things we are not good at. None of us are perfect and none of us will ever be perfect. It is a part of life we have to learn to accept. John Wooten once said, “Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” Focusing on what you can’t do can stop you from accomplishing the things you are able to do. Instead, focus on the talents that God gave you. If we all had the same talents life would be pretty boring. I will never be as good of a chef as Gordon Ramsay, and I am OK with that. We are not perfect, and that is what makes us special.
until next time…
