As I look back at the past month of my life, I’m not really sure where it went. It has been a crazy roller coaster of a ride. I’ve been very busy but last week something happened that made it all worth it.
I have a triathlon coming up in a couple of weeks, so in the midst of having a crazy schedule at work I have tried to make sure I get some workouts in. Last week I went to the YMCA before my shift and ran a few miles. After my workout I showered, shaved, and put on my Y shirt to get ready for work.
As I was headed out the locker room, a guy stopped me and asked what I did at the Y. I let him know that I was a Youth Director at the Garner branch. He then told me how awesome that was and thanked me for the work I do. He let me know he had a daughter that had been in Y programs and how much he appreciated the people who staffed them. I had never met this guy before and here he was telling me he appreciated me.
He had no clue I had put in 50+ hours a week for a few weeks because of Track Out camp. He had no clue just a few days earlier a parent had yelled at me. He didn’t know I had worked open to close day after day to help make sure we were staffed at camp. He didn’t know that while been crazy busy at Track Out I was also conducting interviews and trying to hire staff for Summer Day Camp. He didn’t know how much those words would impact me.
Sometimes God brings you something unexpected at just the moment you need it. The words the guy in the locker room said to me gave me the boost I so desperately needed. It validated all the hard work I had put in.
What can you say to someone today that can give them the boost they need? Maybe it’s someone you know. Maybe it’s a stranger. I know I’ll be looking for a chance uplift someone and I challenge you to do the same.
until next day…
