April Resolution Check Up

April 8, 2015

March has come and gone, and it was a pretty happening month.  I got to watch the Wolfpack make another Sweet 16 run.  March is now a big birthday month in my house.  It already had Angela’s birthday, but with the arrival of Zeke we now get back to back birthdays.  Angela’s sister’s birthday and my brother’s birthday are also in March, so we will be buying lots of presents in March.  With March gone, it is time again for me to take a look back at how I am doing at my New Year’s resolutions.

Stop hitting the snooze button
Made lots of progress with this goal.  I didn’t get it every day, but a lot more often.  Now Zeke doesn’t give me an option to hit the snooze button.  Tapping him on the forehead when he goes off doesn’t reset the timer for 9 more minutes.  It would be glorious if it did, but unfortunately babies are not programmed like that.  Hopefully this training will help me in a few months when he is finally sleeping through the night.

Have a quiet time daily
I am having a quiet time roughly 6 out of 7 days.  Some days are better than others, but I am at least spending time with God most days.  Angela and I set a goal to spend some time in worship every day while I am home on paternity leave and that has been a big help.  Before Zeke was born, I already felt responsible for being the spiritual head of the household.  Now that he is here, that has risen to a whole new level.  It is important to me to be close to God so that I can help lead Zeke in a Godly way.

Post on my blog at least once a week
Rocked this goal again last month.  Every week, except for 1, I published 2 posts.  My calendar is really helping me keep this up as well as seeing the fruit of posting consistently.  It’s funny how when you actually post consistently people will go to your blog.  Still feeling really good about hitting this goal.

Read one book a month
At the time I am writing this, I have finished 2 books and am halfway through my third.  I’m almost caught up.  I am still trying to read a chapter a day in April.  So far I haven’t done that every day (nor did I in March).  To help add some motivation, I added a color to my calendar.  When I reach a goal I previously missed, I write it on the calendar and color it yellow.  Being able to do that with the 2 books I finished has helped be motivated to finish the third and then finish my April book on time so I can actually color that day blue for the first time.

Reach my goal weight
I am right at my goal weight.  When Zeke was born, I decided to take a few weeks off from monitoring this goal so close (I was weighing myself daily).  I knew my schedule would be way different and it wouldn’t be the first thing on my mind.  With that, I have checked my weight periodically and have maintained where I was before he was born.  Now that Zeke is getting into a semi-routine I have been able to get some workouts in.  I am registered for a triathlon the first weekend of May so I am trying to prepare for that the best I can.

March went well for me, but I am still not hitting all my goals.  April will be an interesting month as I’ll also be learning how to take care of my son.  So far it has been an amazing experience (and I don’t expect that to change).  Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with my goals through this huge life change.

until next time…
