The Gift of Giving

June 2, 2018

Giving is something I’ve wanted to write about for a while, but with it being a touchy subject I’ve avoided it.  Even though I’m very passionate about it I have stayed away from it, but something happened this week that was too cool not to share.

A few weeks ago after church, Angela came up to me and told me that God was leading her to give another family some money.  We never carry cash on us, but we randomly happened to have some from something we had sold the day before. [Read more…] about The Gift of Giving

Keeping It Real

May 25, 2018

Community of Hope’s food pantry has a client that has been coming for years.  He usually reeks of alcohol and you never know what he is going to say.  The first time he came to the pantry he wouldn’t even let you pray for him and didn’t want to hear anything about God.  The volunteers loved him anyway and took time to build a relationship with him.  After a few years, he started coming early to help us set up and  helps other clients get their food to their cars before getting his own. Altitude Training

May 14, 2018

A few years ago when I was in Ecuador on a mission trip, our mission team played basketball against some nationals.  We had some people on our team that were pretty good at basketball (I was not one of them).  We played on one of our first days in the country and I had not adjusted to the altitude of Quito.  Needless to say, I was sucking wind for a lot of the game and was wiped out afterwards.  Playing 10,000 feet above sea level kicked my butt.  The nationals on the other hand, looked like they hadn’t even played. Flip the Script

May 1, 2018

I’ve worked in youth camps since I was sixteen years old.  When things are going well, it is easy to go with the mantra of “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.”  A lack of change can is hidden under the mask of tradition.  While it is not necessary to recreate the wheel each year, it doesn’t mean you can’t make some improvements.  When Angela and I bought our house, it was brand new.  Even though it was brand new, we immediately installed a tile back splash in our kitchen and a ceiling fan in our living room.  It didn’t mean we had a busted house.  It just meant there were a few things we wanted to do to make it a little better. I’m Missing Out

April 19, 2018

This post is going to be short and sweet because I’ve though long and hard about a humorous personal story to add to it. Nothing seemed to hit the mark so I’m just going to go without one.

Recently I was reading Numbers 27 where God shows Moses the promised land (that he doesn’t get to go to). [Read more…] about I’m Missing Out

The Moving Process

March 24, 2018

In less than a week we will be moving. I’ve known it was coming for a while, but it really hit me this past week. This is the first house Angela and I owned. It is the house that both of our kids came home from the hospital to. We knew it wouldn’t be our forever home, but it’s still pretty weird to think that in a week I won’t be coming back to it anymore. The worst part of moving is ALL OF IT! Moving is one of my least favorite things. In addition to all the horrible things that will go on in hell, I can imagine one part of it is that you have to constantly pack and move.
