What To Do When Motivation Leaves

March 10, 2018

I was listening to a podcast the other day (The Weekly Parady if you want to check it out) and a guest said something that stood out to me. They said, “Motivation is so fleeting. It is temporary.” That statement couldn’t be more true. Just think of how many New Year’s resolutions are already dead and buried (I know I have some). Even as I’m trying to type this, I’m more interested in the Duke-UNC game and have checked Twitter multiple times.

To further explain that motivation is fleeting, that first paragraph was written last night and I fell asleep on the couch in the middle of writing this post. [Read more…] about What To Do When Motivation Leaves

Being A Better Friend

February 26, 2018

In our social media driven society, I feel like I do a decent job of keeping up with the people in my life. I scroll through posts and see what’s going on in my friends’ lives. I’ll even like some posts or maybe throw up a comment or two. But this morning I came to the realization that I am actually pretty terrible at keeping up with people. It’s no secret that social media is very shallow. We are only seeing the surface of what is going on (unless you are friends with people who overshare- then you know everything about them). Angela and I were talking on the way to church and she mentioned that this past week she had a face to face conversation with a friend that went so much deeper than it ever would have over a text. Putting Life Into Perspective

February 13, 2018

A little over a week ago, our house went on the market. We were already under contract at the house we are moving to, and we were hoping ours would go under contract quick. With two kids and a dog, it would be a nightmare to have the house in a constant state of being ready to show. Multiple houses in our neighborhood had recently sold and went under contract in 24-48 hours. We felt pretty confident that ours would go quick too. We planned to spend the weekend at my in-laws and hoped by the end of it we would be under contract. Our first showing was Friday evening, and by Saturday night we had close to 30 showings at our house. With that kind of traffic, surely someone would put in an offer. God’s Fierce Love

February 1, 2018

This past Sunday at church, we worshipped to Fierce by Jesus Culture. The chorus is,

Like a tidal wave
Crashing over me
Rushing in to meet me here
Your love is fierce
Like a hurricane
That I can’t escape
Tearing through the atmosphere
Your love is fierce

As we were singing, I began to really think about the words. Hurricanes and tidal waves are such destructive things.  Living in North Carolina, I am very aware of people still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. There are still many people in the Caribbean, southern United States, and other areas that are still living with daily reminders of how hurricanes can impact you. From Anger To Peace

January 24, 2018

This past weekend something happened that made me mad. I’m not going to go into the details, but it involved people not keeping their word and being shady. I was not happy at all. I was at the point of looking up emails and phone numbers and letting people know exactly how I felt. The events could have gone further south and thank God they didn’t. Through the process, Angela told me multiple times, “Just relax, this is in God’s hands now.” I repeatedly told her that I knew but I was still mad. I was trying to get over it, but it wasn’t working. I tried playing with my kids, but it didn’t take my mind off of things. [Read more…] about From Anger To Peace

Embracing the Small Steps

January 16, 2018

In Genesis 12, God calls Abram to leave his country, family, and everything he has ever known to go to a new land. God leads him into Canaan and tells him that he would give that land to him and his descendants (v7). Then something interesting happens. A famine strikes Canaan and Abram and his family have to go to Egypt to survive. *insert puzzled look emoji here* [Read more…] about Embracing the Small Steps
