When you do a read through the Bible in a year plan, Deuteronomy is another one of those books that can be easy to breeze through. The children of Israel are preparing to enter the promised land, but before they do Moses gives them a history lesson. He recounts the story of what they have gone through in the wilderness. As I read it, all I could think was, I just read this and I don’t need the recap. It is still fresh on my mind. But this year I am trying better to not just speed through stuff like that, so I began to think about why Moses was doing this. [Read more…] about Remember The Past

Searching For Joy
Last week I was driving home from work and sitting at a red light. Based on the number of cars in front of me, I knew it was going to be a close call for me to make it through the next light cycle. The light turned green and the cars started to go, except for the one right in front of me. They were either texting, or checking Facebook, or taking a selfie, but they weren’t paying attention to the stop light. Finally they started to go, but they weren’t in any rush. As they approached the light it turned yellow. There was just enough time for them to make it through and leave me stuck there for another light cycle. [Read more…] about Searching For Joy
Priests and the Presence of God
I am using the Read Scripture app to read through the Bible in 2017. If you haven’t heard of Read Scripture check it out here. When you start reading through Leviticus and Numbers it can be easy to fly through it and not really pay attention to what you are reading. When it starts talking about all the laws, and all the festivals, and all the things that make you unclean and then what you have to do to make yourself clean, it can be easy to breeze through it and think it doesn’t really apply to me. I’d like to act like I’m more spiritual than that, but my speed reading can hit an all time high when reading those books of the Bible. [Read more…] about Priests and the Presence of God
Taking a Chance
Last night Chance the Rapper hit the stage with Kirk Franklin and Tamela Mann at the Grammys and put on a show. He praised God during his performance. He praised God during his acceptance speech (and not in the typical “I want to thank God” acceptance speech kind of way). It was quite impressive to see those things on such a big stage. If you didn’t see the performance, you can check it out here. But as I watched the performance, I knew it was coming. I knew that it would be all too easy to find “Christians” responding in “love” because Chance doesn’t fit into the box. [Read more…] about Taking a Chance
Kindness Isn’t Dead
Anyone else have their social media news feeds filled with hate and negativity this past week? I had a fun-filled week of hiding lots of people (from all sides) so I would see less of it. But in spite of that there were a few things that happened last week that give me hope that all is not lost. [Read more…] about Kindness Isn’t Dead
A Few Dollars At The Food Pantry
Every month there is a guy that comes to the Community of Hope Ministries food pantry. Each person is allowed to come once a month, but there is something that makes this guy stand out. Every time he comes to the pantry, he makes sure to find my boss and give her a couple of dollars. As far as I know, he is the only person that comes through our pantry and does this. My boss has told me that in the past she has insisted that he keep the money but he wouldn’t leave without her accepting it. [Read more…] about A Few Dollars At The Food Pantry
