Fun Friday #8

July 24, 2020

For those of you struggling to keep track of days right now, it is Friday. This pandemic is lasting longer than any of us anticipated (and this won’t be a place to argue why) and it is taking its toll on all of us. As always, I don’t want to make light of a serious situation, but I do want to show some of the rays of sun that I am seeing in the storm. Here are my recommendations for this week.

Gaining Understand

July 20, 2020

In my last post I discussed how I am learning to be more comfortable with the phrase, “I don’t know.” I discussed that knowing why something is happening is not as important as following the Truth. Then I dropped the mic and walked off. It all sounds great, but what in the world does that even look like. Since I didn’t want to leave you hanging, I’m back on stage picking up the mic for an encore. I want to dive into a few practical things I do to put this into practice. I’m by no means great at this or have arrived but I am learning how to get better at them.

I Don’t Understand

July 10, 2020

There is no doubt that 2020 will be a year talked about for a very long time. It is also taking a play from the LOST playbook and leaving us with more questions than answers (Did Jack make the putt?). One of the toughest parts is not knowing the answers. We are people that want answers to everything. It’s part of the reason conspiracy theories are taking off right now. I was listening to a sermon by Rudy Nikkerud (Planetshakers) recently and he said, “God never called me to a life of understanding.” That simple truth can be so frustrating and so hard to understand.

Footprints in the Sand

June 12, 2020

There is a lot of brokenness in our society right now (understatement of the year I know). There are a lot of hurting people for many reasons and many people looking for answers. One thing it brought to my mind is the Footprint in the Sand poem. If you are unfamiliar with it, it is about a person walking on the beach and reflecting on their life. They see that God walked with them and there were two sets of footprints but noticed that during the tough times there was only one set of footprints in the sand. They ask God why He left them during that time and he answers that at those times he was carrying them. You can read the poem HERE.

Two Books That Changed Me

Two Books That Changed Me

Last week when it came time to put out a new blog post, it didn’t feel right to do another Fun Friday.  It was not the time or place for that. This week I have thought a lot about what I wanted to publish.  Looking back at the past couple of years, God has been doing a lot in my life.  There has been a process of deconstructing my beliefs and examining what was really there. It hasn’t been an easy process and it is a journey I am still on. This week I am still going to provide a few recommendations, but they are books that I have read that really impacted me and changed how I view things. Don’t Jesus juke me when you find out that the Bible isn’t one of them.

Fun Friday #7

May 22, 2020

It’s Friday again! This post is going out a little late because I fell asleep at the computer last night trying to finish it. Slowly but surely we are getting back to “normal” life but the rain didn’t help feeling stir-crazy this week. As always, I don’t want to make light of a serious situation, but I do want to show some of the rays of sun that I am seeing in the storm. Here are my recommendations for this week.
