I installed a ceiling fan today. Oh the joys of being an adult. Angela and I had wanted a fan for our living room for a while. So I told her that was what I wanted for Father’s Day (super cool I know). I knew our living room was pre-wired for a fan to use a switch on the wall, so I figured there wouldn’t be anything to complicated as long as I followed the instructions. I got the mount installed and connected all the wires. But I was not ready for what happened next. [Read more…] about Losing To A Ceiling Fan

A House Divided
The church scene in America is one of the most convoluted messes right now. What is supposed to be a united body spreading the gospel of Jesus has turned into a broken and busted body that is fighting against itself. It seems like every day I am hearing of some new denomination that was formed because some church member got pissed-off and decided they wanted to do things slightly different. You can’t be just Baptist anymore. You have Baptist, free-will Baptist, reformed Baptist, Baptist plus drums, Baptist with women pastors as long as they aren’t head pastors, and more. We have Church of God, Church of God in Christ, and Church of God in Christ covered with the Holy Ghost. There is non-denominational. But are you “we are basically Baptist but wear jeans and play rock music” non-denom or are you “spirit-filled gonna lay hands on you til you fall out” non-denom. I could go on. Sin Is Sin
If you haven’t heard about the Hillsong NYC – Naked Cowboy fiasco, you should go look into it (just don’t get too distracted and make sure you come back and finish reading this). This isn’t going to be a post bashing Hillsong for their decision (even though I do not support what happened, I am shocked that it happened, and wish I was shocked at their response to the uproar). The whole incident just paints a picture of where the church in America is. It is not in a good place. [Read more…] about Sin Is Sin
Into The Unknown
About a month ago I found out the school I work at is closing after this school year. That was an awesome meeting to go to. I am getting ready to wrap up my first year teaching and was looking forward to how I could improve upon things in the fall. But apparently that is not in the cards. So I’ve spent the past month searching for a new job and am still in that process. Jesus told me the storms would come and this one came out of nowhere. [Read more…] about Into The Unknown
Stop Trying To Be Happy
I’m sure some of you clicked on the link thinking this has to be clickbait. No one in their right mind would tell people to stop trying to be happy. It isn’t clickbait. That really is the main point of this post. We all need to stop trying to be happy. In our culture today we are told that happiness should be the driving force of basically everything we do. If you are looking for who to marry, you are often told to find someone you are happy with. When picking a job it should be one that you are happy in. If you are looking for what college to go to, you need to make sure that you can be happy there. Same thing for finding a church, deciding where to live, or any other decisions we are trying to make. Our happiness scale drives our decisions and this is a terrible way to make decisions. [Read more…] about Stop Trying To Be Happy
Love Your Neighbor
Do not waste time bothering whether you ‘love’ your neighbour; act as if you did. As soon as we do this we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him. If you injure someone you dislike, you will find yourself disliking him more. If you do him a good turn, you will find yourself disliking him less. – Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis
There are a lot of things going on today that are polarizing people. It covers all my social media feeds and honestly I’m getting a little tired of it. You can’t check Facebook without seeing something about the upcoming election. You can’t check twitter without seeing something about HB2. And I’m not here to take a stance on anything or talk about what is right and what is wrong. When I see all this it just makes me wonder, what if we just loved people?
