Getting Focused

October 18, 2014

I’ve known one of my talents is writing for a long time.  I got awards for my poetry in elementary school.  Recently, when my mom moved, she found a box with some of my work from when I was in elementary school.  In it was a packet of poems I wrote.  They were classic.  I just spent the last thirty minutes trying to find that packet so I could share one of those poems, but I couldn’t find it.  When I do, I’ll update this post and add one in.  When I started this blog, I didn’t think the writing would be the hard part. The Power of Excuses

October 6, 2014

Today I worked out for the first time since I was in a wreck.  The reason is pretty simple.  I have used the wreck as an excuse not to.  Sure I needed to take some time and let my body heal, but I didn’t need to wait this long to work out again.  I’m not one of those people who loves working out, so I just used the wreck as an excuse to not.  Today I had to fight hard against the urge to not work out.  There are many things I needed to take care of tonight.  I needed to write this blog post.  I needed to have a quiet time.  I needed to clean up the house a bit.  I needed to respond to some emails.  Those aren’t bad things to do, but it doesn’t change that I also needed to work out. Be an Anomaly

September 23, 2014

A couple of weeks ago Lecrae released a new album Anomaly.  In my life I have been challenged by books I have read.  I have been challenged by speakers I have heard.  I’ve been challenged by people in my life.  With Lecrae’s album Anomaly I can now say I have been challenge by an album.  One listen through the Anomaly and you will notice that Lecrae put it all out there on the album.  His lyrics are so raw, transparent and honest.  He holds nothing back and speaks his mind.  It is refreshing and challenging at the same time.  I can’t be the only one who thinks so because Anomaly hit #1 on the Billboard 200. 3.19.15 – Let the March Madness Begin

September 4, 2014

In case you didn’t know, the second round of the 2015 NCAA tournament starts on March 19, 2015.  Hopefully NC State will be making their 4th straight trip to the big dance.  But why on earth would I write about that now?  After all, football season just kicked off this past week (and based on how NC State did I should be super excited about this season)!  As much as I love the NCAA tournament and think it may be the greatest post-season in sports (NFL playoffs are a strong contender), that’s not what I want to talk about.  What I really want to talk about is this…. Stuck in Traditions

August 23, 2014

Recently I saw a commercial for the Micro Touch One razor.  It is a razor with only one blade.  One of the selling points they make in the commercial is “professional barbers still only use one blade.”  This one makes me laugh because of my experience having a professional barber give me a shave.  The week before I got married, I was going to get my hair cut by a barber to make sure it was cut correctly.  Normally I cut my hair and I cut it all one length, but for my wedding I decided to have it faded a bit.  I decided to find a barber that also offered a shave.  My experience getting the shave was fine.  The warm shaving cream was nice.  He did a good job not giving me any cuts.  It wasn’t something I would probably ever pay for again, but I enjoyed it.
