Conflict is a natural part of life. There isn’t really any way to avoid it. Just take one look at the news and it is about all you will see. There are bombings here, shootings there, conflicts everywhere. You can try if you want, but there is not really a way to avoid conflict. As much as we don’t want to admit it, we are the cause of conflict more often than we probably wish. In my job, I deal with it on a daily basis. When kids are running around all day playing games you will inevitably get conflict. In all the conflict I’ve dealt with in my life, I’ve found that there is one thing that solves it every time. Get Out of the Boat
There are a lot of us out there that have dreams. For a lot of us, that is all they are. I recently have been reading through the Gospels and some of the things the disciples to are incredible and make no sense at the same time. I love the story where Peter walks on water. Peter has a dream of something he wants to do and he just goes for it. [Read more…] about Get Out of the Boat
The Blooming of a Seed

Kicking Fear in the Face
Saturday I competed in my second triathlon. It was still a sprint distance, but slightly longer than my first (this one was a 750 yard swim, 17.5 mile bike, 3.1 mile run). I was determined to not let the same disaster that happened in my first triathlon happen again (to get that story check out this post). I headed to Harris Lake full of confidence. This time around I knew what to expect, and I wasn’t going to let fear get the best of me. [Read more…] about Kicking Fear in the Face
Counting Laps
I am competing in my next triathlon in a couple of weeks, so I have pushed myself while doing swimming workouts. The triathlon is a longer swim distance than my previous one, so I am swimming longer distances for my workouts. Swimming laps in a pool can get rather boring. I don’t have any music to pump me up and keep me going. I just get to think a lot and when I start thinking my mind can wander all over the place. This can be great to help the time pass, but it is terrible when I am trying to remember how far I have swam. [Read more…] about Counting Laps
Swimming with the Guppies
With summer day camp being back, there is one thing I have been reminded of: how much I love rising kindergarten campers. With the rising kindergarten huddle you never know what is going to happen next. When we process games at camp, there is an opportunity for campers to praise other campers. After they say what another camper did well, they can give them a reward like claps, snaps, or pats on the back. Last week when the counselor asked one of the Guppies (our rising Kindergarten huddle name) what they wanted to give, their response was, “Two Hotdogs!” We didn’t have a praise reward called hot dogs at camp, but now we do thanks to that Guppy.
