2013 is here, which means people everywhere will be making their New Year’s resolutions. We will come up with the things we want to do or change in the next year. One of the biggest resolutions people make is to lose weight. I’ve worked at the YMCA for a few years, and January and February are by far the busiest months for the gym. Our parking lot turns into a zoo around 5pm. We even have to create sign-up sheets for workout equipment due to the number of people that will be there. [Read more…] about Time For A Change

The Joys of Potty Training a Puppy
About a month ago, Angela and I got our puppy, Nala. She is a Jack Russell Terrier, and is pretty much the cutest thing you have ever seen. I got Nala when she was only seven weeks old as an early Christmas present for Angela. One of our first priorities was to teach her that she needed to use the bathroom outside and not in the house. The first night, despite our best efforts to take her out every couple hours, Nala still pooped in her crate. We found out that not only would she go in the crate, but she liked to then play in it. So we would have to let her out, clean the crate, and give her a bath. This was not my favorite thing to do at three in the morning. [Read more…] about The Joys of Potty Training a Puppy
Winter Wonderland
It’s Christmas Eve, and I am pretty excited about Christmas this year. This is my first Christmas being married, and we have decorations up around the house. For the first Christmas since leaving my parents’ house for college, it feels like I am at home. It is really cool to have a tree decorated and stockings hanging over the fire place. I’m not usually one for decorations, but I really like the way our house looks and feels. [Read more…] about Winter Wonderland
The Power of Nicki Manaj
I was at work yesterday and a middle school camper said something that really disturbed me. They said, “Nicki Manaj really speaks to our generation. She is my role model.” I was blown away. Out of all the possibilities for them like their parents, a teacher, a pastor, or a family member, they chose Nicki Manaj as their role model. It makes me sad that our society is currently in that state. A middle schooler feels that Nicki Manaj is a prime example of how she should model her life. I knew that young people are a generation that needed some love, but yesterday really opened my eyes to how bad it is. [Read more…] about The Power of Nicki Manaj
Preparing for the Unexpected
Seven years ago yesterday, I got phone call that I never thought I would have. I was at Charisma Church setting up for our Christmas production of Narnia. I was in charge of lighting and effects, so I had been busy that whole week climbing ladders and hanging lights in our ceiling. In the middle of setting up, I got a call from my mom. I could tell by her voice that this was not going to be a call I wanted to get. She told me that my cousin Chris had been hit by a car while riding his motorcycle and had died. I wasn’t really sure what to think when I heard this. [Read more…] about Preparing for the Unexpected
What’s the Big Deal About Christmas Music?
If you walk into just about any store in America you will hear Christmas music playing. A few years ago I would have told you I couldn’t stand Christmas music. There was only one Christmas CD I would listen to and that was Relient K’s. It would really annoy me because if you ever listened to a radio station that played Christmas music it felt like you heard the same five songs just by different people. On Christmas Eve we would always go to my grandparents, and I would be annoyed because my mom would insist on listening to Christmas music in the car.
