Purpose and Training

May 13, 2019

In my last post, I wrote about how God created us to be awesome and live an awesome life.  However, just because that is how we are created, that doesn’t mean that is how we are living.  If you haven’t read it, I’d encourage you to check it out because this post will build upon that idea.  If God has created us to live this awesome life, how exactly do we accomplish that?

Be Awesome

May 5, 2019

Now that my father-in-law is retired, he can get back into one of his passions, cooking. He absolutely loves to cook. He will watch cooking shows, read cooking magazines, and search the internet to find the best ways to do things. He is absolutely in love with America’s Test Kitchen. A while ago, he invited us over for wings. The way he prepared the wings was quite the production. First he took them and brined them and covered them in a dry rub. Then he had a process of grilling them for 10 minutes at a time, 7 minutes with the burners on, and 3 minute with the burner off. After 10 minutes he would open the grill lid, flip and repeat.

Friend or Foe

April 28, 2019

Today’s post is a guest post by Angela. You can look forward to seeing a post from her about once a month.

When I began my first full-time job I had a lot of trouble adjusting and getting to know people.  There were a few people who did not like me for reasons I did not understand and they made this abundantly clear.  I was an outsider and no matter how hard I tried to be helpful or kind I was met with hostility.  It got to the point that I was pretty miserable at work.  It wasn’t long before I gave up trying to be nice.  I got through my day but did not make any effort to be kind.  It’s not a time of my life I’m particularly proud of.

Let Go

April 22, 2019

Easter is a time where we remember that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to set us free from our sins.  Acts 13:39 tells us, “and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.”   So for Easter we think on that, take family pictures in our cute Easter outfits, hunt for eggs and eat chocolate bunnies.

The Benefit Of Boundaries

April 14, 2019

The other day, I was sitting on the couch and Zeke came running from the other side of the room with something he wanted to show me.  On his way to me he stubbed his toe on the ottoman and hurt himself.  After I consoled him, I reminded him that was why we have a rule to not run in the house.  The rule isn’t so he doesn’t have fun.  It is to protect him.  Just because we have that rule doesn’t mean he will never stub his toe (I think we are all aware of how they are magnets for furniture legs).  But it will lessen the chances of it happening.

Why Aren’t The Mountains Moving?

April 1, 2019

There is a passage in Mark 11 that is very well-known and often quoted to build up faith.  It is where Jesus talks about if you have faith you can throw a mountain into a sea.  I’m sure it’s been used at youth conferences and summer camps with a song that has amazing hand motions.  There are probably t-shirts based on that passage that used to be sold at Lifeway (too soon?) that ripped off some outdoor company’s style.
