Yep, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I got here. It’s been a while since I’ve put anything on here. So long that I had to go through the site and make sure I updated things before this post went live. It was somewhat embarrassing how old the picture of my family on my about page was. A lot of life has happened since the last time I updated my site. So I guess I’ll get started on my late Christmas card/New Year, New Me post.

Us vs. Them
It seems like everything today has to be divided and force you to pick a side. Republican or democrat. American or unpatriotic. Conservation or liberal. Black lives matter or blue lives matter. Mask or no mask. Shutdown or no shutdown. LGBTQ+ or transphobic. Lines in the sand are drawn, sides are picked, and the battle begins. Everyone on your side is your ally and everyone on the other side is your enemy. You better not be seen even having a conversation with the other side or your loyalty will be questioned (remember when Ellen was bashed for sitting with George Bush at a football game?).

I’ve been wrestling with a thought for a while. I have wanted to write about it for a long time now but debated how it would be received. I think it’s finally got to the point where I no longer care because it needs to be said (or re-said because I’m sure I’m not the first to say it). We are at the point that our Vice President is quoting Bible verses and replacing the name of Jesus with the American flag. I think there is a simple truth that we need to admit as a country.

One thing that seems to always live up to the hype is mom groups on Facebook. Since I’m married, I get some inside access to a few mom groups thanks to Angela. There always seems to be drama on them. Moms can be ruthless. Social media in general seems to be that way lately. You can get on twitter swipe for a while, click on a random tweet and there is a good chance there will be people arguing in the comments. Complete strangers will go back and forth over something so petty. Sometimes I am tempted to jump in and comment, but I have learned (the hard way) that it is way better to stay out.

In my last post I discussed how I am learning to be more comfortable with the phrase, “I don’t know.” I discussed that knowing why something is happening is not as important as following the Truth. Then I dropped the mic and walked off. It all sounds great, but what in the world does that even look like. Since I didn’t want to leave you hanging, I’m back on stage picking up the mic for an encore. I want to dive into a few practical things I do to put this into practice. I’m by no means great at this or have arrived but I am learning how to get better at them.

There is no doubt that 2020 will be a year talked about for a very long time. It is also taking a play from the LOST playbook and leaving us with more questions than answers (Did Jack make the putt?). One of the toughest parts is not knowing the answers. We are people that want answers to everything. It’s part of the reason conspiracy theories are taking off right now. I was listening to a sermon by Rudy Nikkerud (Planetshakers) recently and he said, “God never called me to a life of understanding.” That simple truth can be so frustrating and so hard to understand.
