Over 4 years ago, I wrote a post called I Am Blessed. So many times I hear people talked about people who are blessed and it usually equates to one thing. Often we think people who have money and nice things are blessed. It is all around us. Our society is consumed with it. In order for us to have peace and have our needs met we have to have an absurd amount of money in the bank. We have to have the latest model car or the latest gadget. We have to have a big house and some people who help us take care of it. [Read more…] about I Am Still Blessed

Cling To God
One of my favorite things about being a dad is coming home after work. When Zeke hears the door open, he starts yelling, “Daddy” and running towards the door. He has a huge smile on his face and he jumps into my arms. He will grab on to me and lay his head on my shoulder. It is usually short-lived and he gets back to doing whatever he was doing before I walked in, but I look forward to that moment. There was that one time about a week ago where Angela and Zeke came to pick me up at work and he walked in the door, ran right past me yelling, “Chris” and went and hugged one of my co-workers but I won’t go there. Bring Back Kindness
In 2016 kindness is disappearing in the United States. Everyone in the world is glad that we don’t have to see anymore political ads. In North Carolina those ads have been brutal. Not only did we have to endure all the presidential ones, but we also had very polarizing races for governor and senate among others. I’ve seen at least 2 attack ads per commercial break for at least a month. Add to that all the other stuff that has gone on in 2016 and it seems like we have taken a free pass to throw kindness out the window. [Read more…] about Bring Back Kindness
I am an Israelite
About a month ago I injured my knee. I’m not exactly sure how I did it, but one morning I woke up and my knee felt like it was on fire and I could barely bend it or put any weight on that leg. The doctor said it was just a pretty bad strain and gave me some rehab exercises to do at home. It would be in my best interest to do these exercises everyday, but do I? Nope. I don’t have a desire to stay injured, but yet I’m not doing all I can to heal. You would think that improving my well-being would be toward the top of my to-do list, but some days it’s not. How Did We Get Here?
The Presidential election is coming up in just a few weeks. Please don’t click off now, I promise this is not a political post (I’m just as sick as you about all the garbage we have to listen to). Over the past few months I’ve had lots of conversations that included the question, “How did we get here?” There are many different views of the current state of the USA. Add that I live in North Carolina and it just makes this past year even more fun. There are many views of how we got to where we currently are. I’m not here to offer my opinion on all of that, but there have been plenty of times in my life where I have wondered, “How did I get here?” [Read more…] about How Did We Get Here?
Resetting Priorities
Football is my favorite sport. I can watch any game of football regardless of who is playing. I also used to be very involved in fantasy football. So much so that I have even written blog posts about my frustrations with it. I’ve paid for apps to help me in my draft. I would spend time each week evaluating players and trying to make roster decisions. I was never great at it (although securing a first round bye last year in my fantasy league ended up costing me the championship but that’s another story for another time), but I enjoyed it. But this year I decided I was not going to play in any leagues except my family league. [Read more…] about Resetting Priorities
