About a month ago I found out the school I work at is closing after this school year. That was an awesome meeting to go to. I am getting ready to wrap up my first year teaching and was looking forward to how I could improve upon things in the fall. But apparently that is not in the cards. So I’ve spent the past month searching for a new job and am still in that process. Jesus told me the storms would come and this one came out of nowhere. [Read more…] about Into The Unknown

Stop Trying To Be Happy
I’m sure some of you clicked on the link thinking this has to be clickbait. No one in their right mind would tell people to stop trying to be happy. It isn’t clickbait. That really is the main point of this post. We all need to stop trying to be happy. In our culture today we are told that happiness should be the driving force of basically everything we do. If you are looking for who to marry, you are often told to find someone you are happy with. When picking a job it should be one that you are happy in. If you are looking for what college to go to, you need to make sure that you can be happy there. Same thing for finding a church, deciding where to live, or any other decisions we are trying to make. Our happiness scale drives our decisions and this is a terrible way to make decisions. [Read more…] about Stop Trying To Be Happy
Love Your Neighbor
Do not waste time bothering whether you ‘love’ your neighbour; act as if you did. As soon as we do this we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him. If you injure someone you dislike, you will find yourself disliking him more. If you do him a good turn, you will find yourself disliking him less. – Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis
There are a lot of things going on today that are polarizing people. It covers all my social media feeds and honestly I’m getting a little tired of it. You can’t check Facebook without seeing something about the upcoming election. You can’t check twitter without seeing something about HB2. And I’m not here to take a stance on anything or talk about what is right and what is wrong. When I see all this it just makes me wonder, what if we just loved people? Mission Trip To Nicaragua
One of the things that has had the greatest impact on my life has been to go on mission trips. For the past few summers I have been unable to go and it was tough to see the team go from my church and not be leaving with them. Now that I am a teacher and have summers off, I am excited to be able to go on this year’s trip to Nicaragua. The trip is from July 18 – August 3. [Read more…] about Mission Trip To Nicaragua
Calming The Storms Of Life
People like to say that nothing in life is guaranteed. While I understand what they are trying to say, I don’t agree. There are some things in life that are guaranteed. One of those things is that storms will come. There will be times that try to test us. Jesus, when talking about building your life on a strong foundation, says in Matthew 7:27, “When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” The rains and floods are coming. Mystery Can Be Just As Important As Revelation
I think we have all had a moment in our life that we asked God why. Why did this happen to me? Why did this happen to them? Why do you want me to do that? There is a lot of mystery in the things God has called us to do. The summer heading into my senior year of high school, God gave me one of these moments.
That summer, I worked as a camp counselor at a Christian camp called Teen Valley Ranch on summer. At the beginning of the summer I had no plans on doing so, in fact I had not even applied. One week my youth pastor was going to speak, and my best friend was working there, so I decided to go up for a week for fun. The next week our youth group was going up, so I stayed for the weekend and then the next week with the youth group. Since I was a little older, they asked me if I wanted to be the junior counselor for the week with my youth group. I jumped on the opportunity and had such a fun week.
