I wonder if people think writing comes naturally to writers. In the same way, people probably think song writing comes super easy to a musician. Maybe for some it does, but for me that is not always the case. There are often times I stare at the screen in search of inspiration. That can often make it tough to stick to my blog post schedule. It is really annoying and frustrating. I sit there and think I shouldn’t be stuck. I should be able to pull up the page and easily fill it with words. When I’m in that mode, if I do write anything it is usually forced and not very good. Sometimes those things don’t even get posted. They just end up in the trash can. Life
The Big Picture Person
The busy life of summer camp training is in full swing. Last night I was leading a training on initiative and when I asked the counselors to define initiative one of them said, “Not being afraid to try something new.” It was a great answer that I think often gets overlooked when you think about taking initiative. When thinking about how to grow my blog, it was clear that doing the same thing I had done was not going to take me where I wanted to go. I had heard people like Michael Hyatt and Jon Acuff talk about these things called mastermind groups. [Read more…] about The Big Picture Person
The Power of Sharing a Dream
I have wanted to write an eBook for a while. There was something I was working on and had wrestled with for a while. I was about 4,000 words into it. But every time I sat down to write more it didn’t feel right. Something about it just felt fake and forced. But I had written 4,000 words. It was hard to think about just scrapping all of that. So I started praying about it and seeing if God could give me any clarity or insight on where to go because when I would try to add to those words, I would end up just staring at the screen feeling like it was heading nowhere. No Training, No Results
This past weekend I competed in my 3rd triathlon. I went back to Hilton Head for this year’s annual triathlon they hold. It is just about the 1 year anniversary from the first one I did there last year (the same one I panicked during). I went down there this year bound and determined to do better. I knew my time from last year wasn’t the best I could do because I freaked out during the swim. I had a goal to shave 5-10 minutes off my time. It seemed a little ambitious but I thought I could do it. [Read more…] about No Training, No Results
Why I Bought Index Cards
Recently I started reading Do Over by Jon Acuff. I have a goal to read a book a month, and it is my book for April. I do not enjoy reading fiction, so all the books I read are non-fiction. Sometimes the author will give you activities to do while you are reading the book. Something like “write down an answer to these questions,” or “take a few minutes and think about this.” When I get to those parts of the book, I always do the same thing. I skip it. Babies Are Expensive
In case you didn’t know this, babies are expensive (especially your first one). There is so much stuff you have to get. There are hospital bills. There is the cost for adding them to your insurance. There is a ton of stuff that you need once they are here. When you think about it, it is easy to freak out. Angela and I have a goal for her not to return to work full-time. Thinking about this and crunching numbers in my head, I have immediately been overwhelmed. [Read more…] about Babies Are Expensive
