As I am on this journey to grow in my relationship with God, one thing has been made very clear to me. Simply going through what I deem to be the steps to get closer to God doesn’t guarantee anything. I can ready my Bible, pray, and go to church and still miss out on so many things God has for me.

Sinners and Saints
Recently in church, we were discussing how church shouldn’t be some kind of social club. We treat church like a club with rules and try to recruit more people to it like it is some kind of holy fraternity. And as members of the church, our main motivation shouldn’t be trying to get more members. Yes, Jesus called us to make disciples. But the definition of a disciple is not someone who goes to church.

Jesus often told the disciples He would make them fishers of men. I’ve often thought of those passages from my framework of fishing. I’d think about casting my line in and seeing what I bring in. But that is not at all how the disciples would have thought about it or what Jesus was saying.
The disciples knew that to fish you would cast your net out, pull the haul into your boat, and then return to shore. Once you got to shore, you would sort out the good fish from the bad fish and junk you had pulled in. This is the framework that Jesus was using when He talked about making fishers of men.

A few weeks ago, Angela needed to take Addie to the doctor, so she dropped Zeke off at work with me. It was a Friday, so our after school kids would be playing games in the gym and he could just join in with them. Zeke would have fun and it would make the trip to the doctor with a sick kid easier on Angela. Zeke was running laps around the gym playing with some of the after school kids. Multiple kids came up to me and said, “He just doesn’t stop. He has sooooo much energy.” Every once in a while Zeke would take a break to get a sip of water and then was back up running around the gym. This lasted for about an hour and a half. Even the adults were commenting on how nice it would be to have his energy.
