Recently, there seems to be a recurring theme in what I am hearing from God. The places it is coming from are not connected at all, so it has caught my attention. A couple of months ago, I discovered the song “Maybe It’s OK,” by We Are Messengers. In the chorus, they sing, “Maybe it’s ok if I’m not ok, cause the one who holds the world is holding onto me.” I’ve really identified with the theme of being dirty and broken and knowing that it was OK. I’m not justifying sin here, just saying that even in the midst of that, God is still right there (see my last blog post for more on that).

Not Just An Experience
I’ve been reading through the gospel of Matthew recently and one thing I noticed is that there were often people that surrounded Jesus that didn’t stick around for long. One instance of this is when Jesus feeds over 4,000 people (Matt 15:29-39). He went up on a mountain and people followed Him. He healed people and they listened to Him teach for 3 days without eating. Before Jesus sends them away, He feeds all of them from just a few loaves of bread and a few fish. After all of this, what happens to all these people?

Last night Chance the Rapper hit the stage with Kirk Franklin and Tamela Mann at the Grammys and put on a show. He praised God during his performance. He praised God during his acceptance speech (and not in the typical “I want to thank God” acceptance speech kind of way). It was quite impressive to see those things on such a big stage. If you didn’t see the performance, you can check it out here. But as I watched the performance, I knew it was coming. I knew that it would be all too easy to find “Christians” responding in “love” because Chance doesn’t fit into the box. [Read more…] about Taking a Chance
My Worship Song Go-To’s
I’ve written before about the power of worship (you can check it out HERE). When we worship and get into the presence of God there is freedom. When we are confused and feel lost, we can enter into God’s presence and he can remove the fog. Last night I spoke on Periscope (if you don’t follow me already, click on the periscope icon to the right and follow me) in more detail about this. You can catch the replay HERE. On The Road Again: North11 Style
Saturday, I will fly out to Chicago to play bass for North11 in a couple of shows on the One Life Tour. The opening band was not able to play the last couple of dates and we were asked to come fill in for them. We will be sharing the stage with Disciple, KJ-52, and Loftland and we are pretty excited about it. It is going to be a jam-packed weekend but it is going to be a ton of fun. I leave Raleigh at 7:00am and it will be pretty much non-stop until I get home Monday evening (I’m still trying to figure out how to get from O’Hare to Kewanee, IL so if you can offer any help let me know!). In Search Of Inspiration
I wonder if people think writing comes naturally to writers. In the same way, people probably think song writing comes super easy to a musician. Maybe for some it does, but for me that is not always the case. There are often times I stare at the screen in search of inspiration. That can often make it tough to stick to my blog post schedule. It is really annoying and frustrating. I sit there and think I shouldn’t be stuck. I should be able to pull up the page and easily fill it with words. When I’m in that mode, if I do write anything it is usually forced and not very good. Sometimes those things don’t even get posted. They just end up in the trash can.
