If I told you about the kind of music I listened to in middle school you would probably laugh at me- so get ready to laugh. My top three artists would have probably been DMX, 2pac, and Ma$e. I always said if I became a rapper I would probably go by my initials (NAS) but then NAS busted into the scene and ruined that plan. [Read more…] about It’s Dark and Hell is Hot

Lessons from the ER
The last week has been a whirlwind. It all started last week when Angela developed a cold. What seemed like a common cold turned into so much more. It turned into a crazy week that has included a trip to urgent care, the emergency room, a neurologist, a doctor’s office, a radiologist for an MRI, and ENT doctor. We have heard everything from she could have a cold to meningitis to a tumor. Angela has had blood drawn twice, two IVs, a spinal tap, an MRI, an eye exam, a probe shoved up her nose to look at her throat, and been prescribed three medicines. Don’t Blink
Two Relient K posts in a row? Yep, here it comes. Their new album Collapsible Lung came out this week. Long gone are the punk days for Relient K, but I still think they produce quality music (although Derek Leek disagrees with me). I’ve tried to encourage him to embrace change, but he just isn’t willing. The first track on the CD is called Don’t Blink. When I saw them live a couple months ago, they played it and I knew I would like it when the CD came out. Currently it is my favorite track on the CD. [Read more…] about Don’t Blink
Forget and Not Slow Down
Tonight I went to see Relient K at Cat’s Cradle. That brought back some memories. Even though I haven’t been in a few years, I have been to so many shows there. They played a lot of their older songs, which made me happy, but I was a little disappointed they didn’t play anything from their first album. [Read more…] about Forget and Not Slow Down
Why Worship?
In my last post I talked about how God changed my attitude about worship music. The change is like night and day. I play in the worship band at church, and honestly I don’t like the weeks when I get a break from playing. I’d much rather be playing in the band then in the congregation. My instrument is just another outlet through which I can worship God, and it is an incredible experience to me. So why do I think worship is so important? Why do I believe God changed my heart in this matter? I think worshiping God is the key to unlocking some of the things He has for us. One of these things is His joy. [Read more…] about Why Worship?
Made to Worship?
Right now at Charisma Church we are doing a series/challenge called Set Apart. We are taking three weeks and setting aside some things in our lives to spend more time with God. We are currently one week in, and it has been a powerful experience so far. There are many people at the church who are only listening to worship music during Set Apart. I had considered doing this, but it honestly wouldn’t have been too challenging for me ( I am listening to Israel Houghton right now). I don’t say that to be prideful. I really enjoy listening to worship music, but this hasn’t always been the case. [Read more…] about Made to Worship?
