I’ve been working through the T25 Beachbody plan, and today’s workout is called Total Body Circuit. I hate that workout. I’ve been dreading it all day and no part of me wanted to hit play and get started. But I did. At no point during the workout was I comfortable. I strategically place myself so that I am not directly in front of the TV or I would just focus on how much time was left in the workout. I would have been much more comfortable sitting on my couch enjoying Netflix and chill. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t get me any closer to my goal, but rather would push me further away from it. A New Take On Church
I was reading an article yesterday about the current state of the church in America. You can check it out here. In it John Burton says, “The foundational pursuit of revival has nothing to do with church growth or the lost. It has everything to do with the church awakening, contending in intercession and attracting the fire of the Holy Spirit.”
Now don’t take that quote the wrong way. It is not saying that church growth or ministering to the lost are bad things. It is just saying that shouldn’t be the focus of the church. It is simply saying that when we focus on seeking the Holy Spirit, all the other stuff will follow. [Read more…] about A New Take On Church
The Little Things
A few weeks ago, a friend was telling me about her hummingbird feeder. She loves having hummingbirds around, so she bought a feeder to attract them. A couple of weeks went by and she didn’t see any hummingbirds come to the feeder. Frustrated, she figured it was something about the feeder so she bought a new one. Even after swapping out the feeders, she still didn’t see any hummingbirds at it. While she was sitting on her back porch one day, she decided to pray and ask God to send a hummingbird. As soon as she finished her prayer one flew up to the feeder and she has seen many more since. [Read more…] about The Little Things
Go Home Instead Of Going Hard
Our society tells us that we have to do everything we can to get ahead. People live and die by the phrase, “Go hard or go home.” I’ll admit that I have been guilty of saying that and doing it. The truth is that isn’t always the best advice. Actually, it is hardly ever good advice. Even God rested on the 7th day. I’ve learned that sometimes it’s better to go home, literally.
A few years ago, I was working three jobs to provide for our family. I felt like it was what I needed to do in order for us to continue to have Angela stay at home with Zeke and still be able to pay the bills. [Read more…] about Go Home Instead Of Going Hard
Priests and the Presence of God
I am using the Read Scripture app to read through the Bible in 2017. If you haven’t heard of Read Scripture check it out here. When you start reading through Leviticus and Numbers it can be easy to fly through it and not really pay attention to what you are reading. When it starts talking about all the laws, and all the festivals, and all the things that make you unclean and then what you have to do to make yourself clean, it can be easy to breeze through it and think it doesn’t really apply to me. I’d like to act like I’m more spiritual than that, but my speed reading can hit an all time high when reading those books of the Bible. [Read more…] about Priests and the Presence of God
Misery Or Memories
I love going on mission trips, but by the end I am usually ready to come home. This was definitely the case when I was in Nicaragua. The trip was amazing, but I was ready to see Angela and Zeke. Due to our schedule, we arrived at the airport in Managua around midnight and spent the night in the airport. Our flight from Managua was delayed which caused us to be rerouted and scheduled to arrive home six hours later than planned. We made it to Miami and when it was time for us to board our plane, there wasn’t even one pulled into the gate. That’s a fun way to find out your flight is delayed (thanks American Airlines!). We only had a 50 minute layover in Philly, so there was no way they were holding our connecting flight for us. I checked the flight schedules and that was the last flight out for the night.
