It’s hard to believe I have been posting Fun Friday posts for five weeks now. These posts have been fun for me, but I’m also thankful that it seems we can see the light at the end of the tunnel of this pandemic. Hopefully, that will stay the case. Even once I get back to my “normal” posts, I’ll keep the Fun Fridays around on a semi-regular basis because I do enjoy them and have received positive feedback about them. As always, I don’t want to make light of a serious situation, but I do want to show some of the rays of sun that I am seeing in the storm. Here are my recommendations for this week.
BibleProject Podcast
I spend most of my time riding in cars listening to podcasts. This is another one of my favorites (probably #2 right behind The Holy Post). It is the guys at BibleProject diving deeper into the material behind their videos. They dive so deep into the Bible and the thoughts behind it that sometimes my head hurts after listening. The thing that makes this podcast great is they do an amazing job breaking down the Bible and explaining things in a way that everyone can understand. I very much relate to Jon. Often on the podcast he is asking clarifying questions to make sure he isn’t getting left behind. This podcast has challenged me to dive deeper into the Bible and changed how I read it.
The Last Dance
The Last Dance is a 10 part documentary about Chicago Bulls and the dynasty they built. It focuses on the last championship in the 1997-98 season but tells the whole story of Michael Jordan and all their championships. If there is one thing that ESPN still does well, it is their documentaries. This is no exception. I remember all the Bulls championship runs and how good they were, but I wasn’t a huge Bulls or NBA fan. After watching the 1st episode of this documentary I was hooked. Side note: there is a rated MA version with mature language and there is a TV14 version with the language toned down.
Streetlights
Someone shared this with me this week and I am passing it along to you. Streetlights is an organization that has put an audio Bible (NLT) over hip-hop tracks. It is a cool way to engage the scripture. I’ve listened in the car and had it on in the background while working (like right now on this post) and have really enjoyed it. I’m definitely not diving deep into the scripture doing this, but it is a new way for me to meditate on them. They have their own app (iOS and Android) and it is available on Apple Music and Spotify.
That’s it for my recommendations this time around. Stay safe and check back next week for a new post!
until next time…
