This post is a semi-guest post by Angela. I’m stealing something she put on Facebook because I don’t think I could say it any better. There is so much negativity going around right now (from every side). The elections were getting heated and then coronavirus stepped in to ramp it up a few notches. After seeing all of this take place for weeks, Angela felt led to post something in a mom’s group she is a part of on Facebook. It was in response to a lot that she was seeing related to the coronavirus (and I am posting it exactly as she wrote it).
“We are all in different places about how we feel about this situation or what we think is going to happen. There is so much back and forth about what the facts are. I’m not speaking to any of that. But what I do know is right now our community and world is in crisis. Not only the virus itself but even the fear/panic/mass hysteria/whatever you want to call it.
No matter your personal opinions on the subject or if you think they should be- the fact is people are scared. Please understand this is not to call anyone out or condemn. To be totally honest I’ve had moments of judging both sides for over what I deem to be under or over reacting or sharing misinformation. And I’m sorry for that and have been feeling convicted that I need to change my attitude and instead see people with compassion.
So instead of arguing about it or making jokes or rolling eyes or judging people who are or aren’t preparing I’m asking can we change the conversation.
To all of you, whether you are:
Scared
Shutting yourself in your house
Preparing like it’s a zombie apocalypse
Buying ALL the toilet paper
Only a little concerned
Living like nothing’s different
Or some mix of all of this
I want to tell you I am praying for you and your families and am here if you need to talk things through, or anything else you need help with.
My prayer is that whatever happens we can walk in peace. That instead of turning on each other or arguing about who is right or wrong we can join together as a community and support and love each other where we are. Sickness is real, fear is real, but so are the promises of God.“
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. – Isaiah 41:10
That’s so good. I’m not even going to try to write my own conclusion. It convicts me just reading it. I don’t know what is going to unfold in the next few weeks, months, whatever. I do know that we should approach it in love.
until next time…
