Stealing Smiles

January 13, 2014

A few days ago, I was hanging out at Track Out camp when I noticed a kid who wasn’t smiling.  I went up to him and asked him if he could smile for me, and he wouldn’t.  His huddle was having snack so I started asking the kids around him if any of them had taken his smile.  A bunch of the people around him were smiling, so I tried to “steal” their smile from their face so I could give it to him.  I did this by doing the old “I’ve got your nose” trick, but this time acting like I was taking their mouth.  Of course all of them didn’t want to give up their smile, but it did bring one out of the kid I was trying to get to smile.  The rest of the day, every time I saw this huddle I would try to steal smiles from them.  During lunch, two girls walked up to me.  One was smiling and the other was not.  The smiling girl told me, “I took her smile!”  The other girl tried her hardest to keep a frowning face, but she wasn’t able to pull it off.  I’m sure this will be something that goes on for a few more weeks before they get tired of it.

At this point, you are probably thinking, “Well that’s a weird story and I have no idea where this is going.”  My goal that day was simple.  I wanted to make a kid who was frowning smile.  Something so simple, yet so powerful.  I hope to make that my goal every day.  I want to do something every day that makes someone else smile.  I want to do anything I can to take my smile and pass it on to someone else.  Maybe you can make that your goal as well.

until next time…
