These Are Not My Children

November 8, 2018

Today’s post is a guest post by Angela. You can look forward to seeing a post from her once a month.

Our church is doing a bible reading plan and one day we were reading Luke 2.   The Christmas story.   I have read this passage countless times- almost exclusively in December.   But this time a rather odd passage stuck out to me.  Verses 21-24 say, “Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived. Then it was time for their purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. The law of the Lord says, “If a woman’s first child is a boy, he must be dedicated to the Lord.” So they offered the sacrifice required in the law of the Lord— either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” [Read more…] about These Are Not My Children

Ezekiel: Living Up To The Name

November 13, 2015

The month before Zeke was born I decided to read the book of Ezekiel.  I figured it would be a fun thing to do since he would share the name.  I’d love to act all super-spiritual (actually I wouldn’t, I’ll leave that to the Starbucks holiday cup people) but we did not name him after the book of the Bible.  Angela and I liked the way Ezekiel sounded and really liked the meaning (God strengthens).  As I was reading through Ezekiel it started to get me down.  The book of Ezekiel has a lot of doom and gloom, turn or burn, be sanctified or french fried kind of stuff in it.  I started to think maybe it was a bad idea for me to read through it before he was born.  It wasn’t really getting me excited like I thought it would. Kicking Fear in the Face

July 20, 2014

Saturday I competed in my second triathlon.  It was still a sprint distance, but slightly longer than my first (this one was a 750 yard swim, 17.5 mile bike, 3.1 mile run).  I was determined to not let the same disaster that happened in my first triathlon happen again (to get that story check out this post).  I headed to Harris Lake full of confidence.  This time around I knew what to expect, and I wasn’t going to let fear get the best of me. Swimming with Sharks

Swimming with Sharks

I’ve been watching a lot of the TV show Shark Tank recently.  On the show, people bring business ideas in front of investors and try to strike a deal.  It is entertaining seeing the different business ideas and products people have.  Just today I saw an episode where a guy pitched a company called Rent-a-grandma.  I’m sure you aren’t sold on the idea by the name, and the sharks weren’t sold on the pitch.  Even more than the pitches, I love hearing the sharks debate about it.
