Saturday, I will fly out to Chicago to play bass for North11 in a couple of shows on the One Life Tour. The opening band was not able to play the last couple of dates and we were asked to come fill in for them. We will be sharing the stage with Disciple, KJ-52, and Loftland and we are pretty excited about it. It is going to be a jam-packed weekend but it is going to be a ton of fun. I leave Raleigh at 7:00am and it will be pretty much non-stop until I get home Monday evening (I’m still trying to figure out how to get from O’Hare to Kewanee, IL so if you can offer any help let me know!). My Love of Music
Music is a huge part of my life. I am constantly listening to it or playing it. If one of those two isn’t an option then I have a song in my head. I am the guy who is singing at the top of my lungs in the car (until I stop at a light). I’ve actually developed a system when to resume singing after stopping at a light. There are a lot of variables like time of day, number of cars at the lights and number of lanes to name a few. Another thing I do is associate music with memories. I love going back and listening to albums that I got when I was in high school and college because they bring back some awesome memories. So for fun I thought I would run through my top 5 nostalgic albums. [Read more…] about My Love of Music
It’s Dark and Hell is Hot
If I told you about the kind of music I listened to in middle school you would probably laugh at me- so get ready to laugh. My top three artists would have probably been DMX, 2pac, and Ma$e. I always said if I became a rapper I would probably go by my initials (NAS) but then NAS busted into the scene and ruined that plan. [Read more…] about It’s Dark and Hell is Hot
Why Worship?
In my last post I talked about how God changed my attitude about worship music. The change is like night and day. I play in the worship band at church, and honestly I don’t like the weeks when I get a break from playing. I’d much rather be playing in the band then in the congregation. My instrument is just another outlet through which I can worship God, and it is an incredible experience to me. So why do I think worship is so important? Why do I believe God changed my heart in this matter? I think worshiping God is the key to unlocking some of the things He has for us. One of these things is His joy. [Read more…] about Why Worship?
Made to Worship?
Right now at Charisma Church we are doing a series/challenge called Set Apart. We are taking three weeks and setting aside some things in our lives to spend more time with God. We are currently one week in, and it has been a powerful experience so far. There are many people at the church who are only listening to worship music during Set Apart. I had considered doing this, but it honestly wouldn’t have been too challenging for me ( I am listening to Israel Houghton right now). I don’t say that to be prideful. I really enjoy listening to worship music, but this hasn’t always been the case. [Read more…] about Made to Worship?
What’s the Big Deal About Christmas Music?
If you walk into just about any store in America you will hear Christmas music playing. A few years ago I would have told you I couldn’t stand Christmas music. There was only one Christmas CD I would listen to and that was Relient K’s. It would really annoy me because if you ever listened to a radio station that played Christmas music it felt like you heard the same five songs just by different people. On Christmas Eve we would always go to my grandparents, and I would be annoyed because my mom would insist on listening to Christmas music in the car.
