Us vs. Them

September 4, 2020

It seems like everything today has to be divided and force you to pick a side. Republican or democrat. American or unpatriotic. Conservation or liberal. Black lives matter or blue lives matter. Mask or no mask. Shutdown or no shutdown. LGBTQ+ or transphobic. Lines in the sand are drawn, sides are picked, and the battle begins. Everyone on your side is your ally and everyone on the other side is your enemy. You better not be seen even having a conversation with the other side or your loyalty will be questioned (remember when Ellen was bashed for sitting with George Bush at a football game?).

Waiting On Test Results

January 16, 2020

I haven’t posted much in the past month. It wasn’t just because of the business of the Christmas season. Life hit hard around Thanksgiving and it’s been a process recovering. I made a decision long ago that I was going to be real on my blog. I don’t want to just post “good Christian thoughts” just to post them. I want it to be real and transparent and give an accurate picture of the journey I am on. I haven’t quite known how to articulate what has been going on, and honestly I haven’t had the desire to figure it out.

In Over My Head

November 7, 2019

Normally when we think of the phrase “in over our head” it has a bad connotation.  Typically that means we are at the place where we don’t have complete control and don’t know everything that is going on.  I remember feeling like this when we brought Zeke home for the first time.  At the hospital, we had everything we needed. We had people checking on us and making sure we were doing everything right.  If we needed a break, we could pass Zeke off to someone else to give us a minute to breathe.

Don’t Blink

July 3, 2013

Two Relient K posts in a row?  Yep, here it comes.  Their new album Collapsible Lung came out this week.  Long gone are the punk days for Relient K, but I still think they produce quality music (although Derek Leek disagrees with me).  I’ve tried to encourage him to embrace change, but he just isn’t willing.  The first track on the CD is called Don’t Blink.  When I saw them live a couple months ago, they played it and I knew I would like it when the CD came out.  Currently it is my favorite track on the CD. Limitless

Limitless

A couple weeks ago Planetshakers released a new CD entitled Limitless.  The title track has quickly become one of my favorite songs by them.  It has become an anthem that I love to proclaim.  The lyrics are powerful and get me pumped up.  Check out the video for it below. Moving On Up

Moving On Up

Now that I have you all singing the theme song from The Jeffersons (and if you weren’t I hope you are now), I have some exciting news to share.  A few weeks ago, I accepted a position as a youth director at the YMCA of Garner.  I will be at a new branch, but still within the YMCA of the Triangle.  It has been a long and crazy road getting to this point.  It will be sad for me to leave Alexander since I’ve been there for three and a half years and met so many awesome families and kids.  I also really enjoy the people that I work with at Alexander, and that will be tough to leave.  With that being said, I am really excited about my new opportunity.  The YMCA of Garner is heading in a great direction and it will be really fun to be on the front end of those opportunities.
