There is something about me that most guys would be afraid to say. I think it is time I just come clean and admit it. There is no shame in my game. I like Taylor Swift’s music. There I said it. It’s out in the open. That’s a huge weight of my chest. Some of you may be judging me, but you just need to go ahead and admit that the catchy tune of “Shake It Off” gets stuck in your head every time you hear it. You can act all big and bad, but deep down there is some part of you that enjoys it. I’ve been considering buying her new album. She has received some hate because it isn’t like her country albums of the past, but honestly I would be totally cool with that. Those were the parts of her previous albums I didn’t like. I don’t actually own any of her albums because of that. I’ve been waiting for her to release a greatest hits CD because those are the songs I like.
Some of you may be wondering, is Nick really writing a whole post about Taylor Swift? The answer is yes. And if you are waiting for some spiritual tie-in, you may as well go ahead and stop reading because there won’t be one. Anyway, you have probably heard that Taylor Swift recently pulled all her music off Spotify. This made the casual fan like me pretty upset. It is no longer super easy for me to get my T Swizzy fix. She says Spotify is bad for artists. She claimed that money was part of the issue.
I worked her concert when she came to PNC Arena last year and you don’t want to know how much people were paying for VIP tickets. But that is beside the point. I’ve considered buying her album, but now I feel like I shouldn’t on principle. Right now she has made no money from me, but if her music was still on Spotify, I would have played the album at least a few times. Yeah I know that isn’t a lot of money but if I had liked it enough, I probably would have bought it. So this is my plea: Taylor put your music back on Spotify. It will make me and all the other casual fans so much happier. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is one of my favorite camp sing-a-longs. Until you do, I will have to find a new song for the children and I to sing along to.
I know the decision will be tough for you. You will basically be admitting you were wrong. It’s OK, we all make mistakes. Just please do the right thing and fix this one. Put your music back on Spotify so that so many of us can secretly enjoy it again. Thanks in advance!
until next time…
