I’ve seen a lot of blog post or post on social media about what people think about praise and worship in church. There are the debates on what is weird and what is acceptable. Well I am here to offer a different perspective, the one of the band member. Some people think it is awkward to be a part of the congregation, and I would say it can be just as awkward to be a part of the band. I’ve played worship at some churches where people just stood there and stared at you. I played worship at an event where a group of girls kept yelling out one of the band members name (yeah it was super awkward). I’ve played worship where we lost power and people kept singing and worshiping (this has actually happened twice and was amazing at both events).
When I get on stage to play worship I always wonder what atmosphere we will get. I absolutely love being a part of a worship band, but some times it can get very hard to focus on worship if I look out into the crowd. I’ve compiled my favorite list of things I see:
1. The person who keeps checking their watch
2. The people near the back who are goofing off
3. The person who is fifteen minutes late
4. The person that is busting some sweet moves
5. Other band members faces after one of us makes a mistake
So I have come up with two solutions to help my ADD:
1. Look at my guitar
2. Close my eyes
Next time you see me doing one of these while being in the worship band you will know what’s going on.
until next time…
