I’m sorry my blog hasn’t been updated in about a month, but hopefully you all understand. A few weeks ago I left the single life behind. It was an incredible day, and as I look back there is one thing that is abundantly clear to me that I am blessed beyond anything I could ever imagine. Not just blessed to have an amazing wife like Angela, it goes so much deeper than that. The blessing of God was given a whole new meaning in my life that day.
When I look at our wedding party, I see a group of people that would be there for us no matter what. Like Derek said in his toast, they aren’t just our friends, they are our family. The guys had a ton of fun getting ready that day (and I’m pretty sure the girls did as well). We stumbled upon Westwood’s Christmas production costumes in the bathroom we were using, and we couldn’t let that opportunity slip through our hands. I’d be lying if I told you this wasn’t the reason we were running a little late to get to the pictures, but it was definitely worth it. The fun didn’t stop when the ceremony started. At the rehearsal the guys goofed off during their entrance to the Super Mario theme song (yes that is the song we walked in to at the wedding), and a game time decision was made just moments before the ceremony started to do it for the actual ceremony. Based on the reaction from the crowd, it was a good decision.
Then I think about how amazing everything at the church and reception hall looked and how smoothly everything ran. Both Angela and I were blown away by how good Eunice and her team were able to make the reception hall look. If you had seen it beforehand, you would know it was nothing short of magical. Cherith did an amazing job directing the wedding and making sure all the people were in their places at the right time. Jim did an unbelievable job on the food at the wedding. Kay did an amazing job with the cake and cupcakes. And all of those people donated their time and supplies. To have all those people care about us so much that they would be willing to give all of that for us is an incredible thing.
So many people showed up on our special day to share it with us. I was blown away by the number of people who were there. It was unbelievable to think there were that many people that cared enough to give up their Saturday, especially when there was a home NC State football game. As I look through some of the pictures, it is awesome to see all the smiles of all the people sharing our special moment.
And then there is our parents. Angela and I are so blessed to have parents that gave up so much for us to have our day. Not just their money, but their time, support, and love as well. There is no question that without them our wedding day would not have been as nice as it was. With all the crazy stuff Angela and I wanted, they went along and helped us make our day special.
After the wedding, we got to spend a week in a resort in the Dominican Republic. It was beautiful there and we had a lot of fun. One of the best parts though, is that our honeymoon was completely paid for before we went on it. I can go ahead and tell you that there is no explanation for this other than God blessing us.
It is a few weeks after the wedding, and I am still being told by people how much fun they had. Some have even gone as far as to say it was the best wedding they have been to (I would have to agree with them on that one haha). Angela and I went outside the box and had some fun, and we are glad to know other people enjoyed it too.
As I look back on all the ways that God has blessed me, I am even more motivated to be a blessing to someone else. So many people poured into me so that I could have an incredible day, and I want to be that to someone else. Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Angela and I had so many people looking out for our interests on our wedding day. I will always remember that day as the start of my marriage, but it will also be a reminder of how incredible blessed I am. I hope that it will be a constant reminder to make others more significant than myself.
until next time…
