Honesty seems to be something of the past. Lying has become an acceptable thing in our culture. It is sad but true. We are shocked when someone is honest with us. I was once called a “fool” (yes those exact words) for saying if Angela asked me if something she was wearing made her look fat that I would be honest to her. A couple of weeks ago I was in line at McDonald’s and the guy in front of me dropped some cash on the ground and didn’t notice. I picked it up and gave it back to him and his response was, “Thanks, that’s something you don’t see every day.” Where has all the honesty gone? [Read more…] about The Lie About Lying

Pee On It!
Last week Angela and I went to Myrtle Beach. It was nice to get away for a few days and just relax. One day, to cool off from the heat, we headed into the ocean. It felt great, but the waves were a lot rougher than they normally are at Myrtle. Angela and I were just floating around and talking, when all the sudden she started screaming and moving towards the shore. [Read more…] about Pee On It!
Forget and Not Slow Down
Tonight I went to see Relient K at Cat’s Cradle. That brought back some memories. Even though I haven’t been in a few years, I have been to so many shows there. I also realized that it has been over a decade since the first time I saw Relient K. That made me feel just a little old. They played a lot of their older songs, which made me happy, but I was a little disappointed they didn’t play anything from their first album. [Read more…] about Forget and Not Slow Down
Moving On Up
Now that I have you all singing the theme song from The Jeffersons (and if you weren’t I hope you are now), I have some exciting news to share. A few weeks ago, I accepted a position as a youth director at the YMCA of Garner. I will be at a new branch, but still within the YMCA of the Triangle. It has been a long and crazy road getting to this point. It will be sad for me to leave Alexander since I’ve been there for three and a half years and met so many awesome families and kids. I also really enjoy the people that I work with at Alexander, and that will be tough to leave. With that being said, I am really excited about my new opportunity. The YMCA of Garner is heading in a great direction and it will be really fun to be on the front end of those opportunities. [Read more…] about Moving On Up
I Own Skinny Jeans
So I have a confession to make. Well I guess I actually made it in the title of this blog, but I own skinny jeans. At no point in time did I ever think this would happen; until I went on the 2013 Charisma Student Ministry retreat. Following tradition, we stopped on the way home to do some shopping shopping. This year the youth wanted to go to the outlet mall, and I love outlet malls, so I had no problem agreeing with that. Our first stop was Rue 21. I wasn’t really planning to buy any clothes, but they had some really good sales. I thought one of the signs said “Buy one, get one free skinny jeans” for $10. When I saw that, I texted one of my youth to let him know that he should come check it out. I had actually misread the sign and it was buy one, get one for $10, but some of the youth were still interested. [Read more…] about I Own Skinny Jeans
Time For A Change
2013 is here, which means people everywhere will be making their New Year’s resolutions. We will come up with the things we want to do or change in the next year. One of the biggest resolutions people make is to lose weight. I’ve worked at the YMCA for a few years, and January and February are by far the busiest months for the gym. Our parking lot turns into a zoo around 5pm. We even have to create sign-up sheets for workout equipment due to the number of people that will be there. [Read more…] about Time For A Change
