Taking Thoughts Captive

October 17, 2019

A few weeks ago, I had one of those days where it seems like everything was just a little off.  Nothing majorly went wrong, but there were all kinds of small weird things.

There was one big thing that happened.  Once a month, we provide groceries for the after school families in the program I oversee.  I started my day by picking up three pallets of groceries that would be packed into boxes for these families. I was driving one of the trucks back to work and I dumped about half a pallet of groceries in the right hand lane of Highway 401 during rush hour traffic.  The pallet was packed and wrapped poorly and unfortunately I found out while making a left hand turn (wasn’t going more than 5mph).

A Few Dollars At The Food Pantry

January 9, 2017

Every month there is a guy that comes to the Community of Hope Ministries food pantry. Each person is allowed to come once a month, but there is something that makes this guy stand out. Every time he comes to the pantry, he makes sure to find my boss and give her a couple of dollars. As far as I know, he is the only person that comes through our pantry and does this. My boss has told me that in the past she has insisted that he keep the money but he wouldn’t leave without her accepting it. [Read more…] about A Few Dollars At The Food Pantry

Into The Unknown

May 19, 2016

About a month ago I found out the school I work at is closing after this school year.  That was an awesome meeting to go to.  I am getting ready to wrap up my first year teaching and was looking forward to how I could improve upon things in the fall.  But apparently that is not in the cards.  So I’ve spent the past month searching for a new job and am still in that process.  Jesus told me the storms would come and this one came out of nowhere. My Next Adventure

August 23, 2015

I began working at the YMCA of the Triangle in 2009.  Since then it has been a crazy journey that has landed me in the role of a Youth Director in Garner for the past 2 1/2 years.  Over the years I’ve learned a lot, I’ve grown a lot and I’ve had the chance to do lots of awesome things (like be in a skit with Scotty McCreery).  I’ve had the chance to work with some incredible people and be a part of some really fun programs.  Lately however, it has been tough on my family.  On a typical day, I do not get home until around 6:30.  With Zeke going to bed between 7:00-7:30, that didn’t leave me much time to spend with him.  There are also lots of nights that required working into the evening and when I got home he would already be asleep.  As much as I enjoyed my job, I knew it was time to start looking for something else. Swimming with the Guppies

June 25, 2014

With summer day camp being back, there is one thing I have been reminded of:  how much I love rising kindergarten campers.  With the rising kindergarten huddle you never know what is going to happen next.  When we process games at camp, there is an opportunity for campers to praise other campers.  After they say what another camper did well, they can give them a reward like claps, snaps, or pats on the back.  Last week when the counselor asked one of the Guppies (our rising Kindergarten huddle name) what they wanted to give, their response was, “Two Hotdogs!”  We didn’t have a praise reward called hot dogs at camp, but now we do thanks to that Guppy. A Locker Room Conversation

April 30, 2014

As I look back at the past month of my life, I’m not really sure where it went.  It has been a crazy roller coaster of a ride.  I’ve been very busy but last week something happened that made it all worth it.

I have a triathlon coming up in a couple of weeks, so in the midst of having a crazy schedule at work I have tried to make sure I get some workouts in. [Read more…] about A Locker Room Conversation
