What I’m Cooking

March 5, 2014

Maybe you are hoping that this blog post will have something to do with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Unfortunately that is not the case, however I can give a pretty mean People’s Eyebrow. Not really though, but that would be pretty awesome.

Yesterday I was at a meeting for work and someone said something that stuck with me. They said, “You can’t serve what you aren’t already cooking.” [Read more…] about What I’m Cooking

Stealing Smiles

January 13, 2014

A few days ago, I was hanging out at Track Out camp when I noticed a kid who wasn’t smiling.  I went up to him and asked him if he could smile for me, and he wouldn’t.  His huddle was having snack so I started asking the kids around him if any of them had taken his smile.  A bunch of the people around him were smiling, so I tried to “steal” their smile from their face so I could give it to him. Success is Rewarding

October 9, 2012

Last week I started working a track-out program for children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders or Autism at the Y.  This is the first time our branch has had a program for these kids.  I have had some experience working with children with high functioning Autism, but not with low functioning kids.  I was pretty nervous going into it because I didn’t know what to expect.  I had received training, but as with any job, you never really know what you are getting into until you start.  Part of me knew I was going to have a lot of fun and would learn a lot over the three weeks, but part of me was nervous about what would happen. Just A Normal Day At Camp

July 11, 2012

Today when I got to work I had a lot of things on my mind.  We are really short staffed this week and it has been hectic.  At some point during the day I was supposed to get a call from a mom who had some concerns.  It was starting to rain and weather reports were saying it would stay that way all day, so I had to start coming up with a plan for what to do if that happened.  It wasn’t shaping up to be an ideal morning. But Thanksgiving is in November…

June 19, 2012

It seems like just yesterday I was wondering how camp was going to get set up, and now it seems like camp is flying by.  We are already in the middle of week 2 of 8 and there are no signs of it slowing down.  I am once again rediscovering why summer is my favorite part of the year. The Start of Something Great

June 6, 2012

Summer camp starts next Monday.  For me, this year will be a little bit different from previous years.  I’ve spent the last nine months helping create a camp from scratch.  This will be the first summer of Camp Trinity’s existence.  It has been an incredible journey that will become very real on Monday.  A lot of blood, sweat, and tears has gone into making this camp a reality.
